Poetry of Devotion & Doubt

“There lives more faith in honest doubt,

Believe me, than in half the creeds.”

– Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Many theologians, philosophers, and poets have expressed the comfort one can find in faith and devotion and the discomfort that comes with feelings of doubt.

The First U group Poetry of Devotion & Doubt (or the “Poetry Posse”) is a gathering of Unitarian Universalists who discover ourselves and community in discussing poetry that addresses the tension between devotion, or faith, and doubt. We meet one Sunday each month following services on the premesis, but we have been known to meet up at a cemetery to super-charge the atmosphere for reading and discussion. The group is open to all and discussion leadership is shared among the members. Join the mailing list to find out what poems we will be discussing at the upcoming meetings. Contact Beth Evans beth.evans.is@gmail.com for more information.

Soul Matters

Soul Matters is a monthly small group experience built on deep, intentional listening. Each month, you’ll receive a reflection guide with thoughtful questions, readings, and exercises to explore at your own pace before we gather to share, honor each other’s stories, and grow together.

Caring Ministry

The Caring Ministry is a way to serve the congregation while nurturing your own soul. Caring Ministry volunteers provide pastoral listening in the Chapel of All Faiths after each Sunday morning service; accompany congregants through challenging life transitions; and provide hands-on care for people in temporary need.
