Book Club
The First Unitarian-Universalist Book Club was started to recognize women authors and provide support through enjoyment and the purchase of their books. The Women’s Alliance sponsored the group. This was in the 1970’s when the publishing world was dominated by men. Some current members remember these early times.
We currently read all authors, fiction and nonfiction, and welcome all readers.
We are meeting on zoom on the second Thursday of each month, excluding August. We encourage you to give us a try. Please contact Langdon Holloway at l.a.hollowary35@gmail.com.
Shawl and Craft Ministry
The Shawl and Craft Ministry creates shawls that are given to members going through hardship and to youths when they “bridge” into young adulthood after high school. The ministry also provides community for folks who enjoy crafting with others. The ministry meets on first Thursdays at 6:30 PM on Google Meet and third Sundays at 12:30 PM during fellowship hour. All are invited to bring their needlework or other craftwork and to share ideas and conversation. Yarn, needles, and guidance are available. Contact Mary Most or Lee Pardee.

The Salon Crew is a behind‑the‑scenes volunteer team that keeps The Salon @ First U running smoothly and feeling magical—no performing required (but welcome!). Crew members help create a cozy, coffeehouse atmosphere in the Frances White Room by setting up the space, welcoming guests, and keeping snacks and coffee flowing.
🌟 Roles within the Salon Crew
- Pastry Patron — Snack setup
- Atmosphere Architect — Room setup, ambiance creation, and end‑of‑night reset.
- Gatekeeper — Welcome table host, sign‑up encourager, keeper of the evening’s lineup.
Volunteers can sign up for one night or the whole season, bringing warmth, hospitality, and a little backstage magic to this beloved community event.
💛 Why Join? You get the camaraderie, the creativity, the snacks, and the satisfaction of helping build a beloved community event—with or without ever stepping into the spotlight. Even volunteering for one night makes a huge difference.
